The Great Wall of Dallas

Smart takes design to new heights at Dallas Fort Worth Airport

With limitless boundaries and mile-high ceilings, Smart jumped at the chance to construct and design the largest interior hoarding wall that they have been involved with to date, in the main terminal of the Dallas Fort Worth Airport. Jokingly named after China’s most historic landmark, the Great Wall of Dallas is an impressive 318 feet long, reaches up to 27 feet in height and occupies over 3,600 square feet. The challenges? A construction period of just eight weeks, the need to integrate the metroplex cities of Dallas and Fort Worth into the design space, and the desire to take passengers to new heights.

To give travelers a true sense of the region and a glimpse at what awaits them, dazzling illustrations of the cities’ most iconic buildings and local artwork are featured in custom vinyl graphics on three-dimensional panels to welcome passengers to the Dallas Fort Worth area and to celebrate its authentic Western culture. Passengers are encouraged to take advantage of the stunning art as a backdrop for their selfies and to use the hashtag connection to have their photos featured on adjacent monitors. Nearby, an exclusive behind-the-scenes area features a live feed of construction activity, showing what’s to come on the airport’s renovations.

To show off the airport’s upcoming luxury duty-free and local artisan merchandise, 15 video monitors provide brand and operator advertising and feature travel destinations that the airport connects with. Three internally illuminated panels offer travelers entertainment with brand advertising. This multimedia entertainment hub also features several interactive monitors that provide airport terminal and flight information for passengers, easing the stress of travel.
